Sociology Graduate School Admission Results

Emailed me about the update, and asked me to check the application portal, regret to inform...

For those who are inquiring about Michigan. As a U-M alum, I can confirm (told by faculty) that U-M does not conduct interviews prior to sending decisions. The other poster is also correct. Under normal circumstances, they consistently send decisions around the middle to end of February.

Waiting on funding

Waitlisted for funding package. No funding available at the moment.

Sharing some information: the reviewing process of admission materials have started but the admission committee is facing extra burdens reviewing the materials this year. Many of the top tier programs have suspended admission for fall 2021, making Michigan receiving much, much more applications than usual.

The grad director of UW Sociology gave me this update when I asked her about the admissions timeline -- "This is all a process, and everyone will get an answer. The first round are immediate admits. Then we build a waitlist. Then lastly we do denials. It takes until the end of March often for us to get all answers out as we do this in phases. If you are on GradCafe or some such site, if you could let everyone know, all will get a response, but not all at the same time and that we take a while to get all the responses out. Generally speaking, I do not answer these inquiries as a result, if you could let everyone know that as well that would be really helpful, thanks. "
