Notification of the only spot being filled. "I am writing to let you know the one offer we were able to make this year has been accepted. In a normal year you would have been admitted as well; this year you were first on our very short waiting list." So close!

Waitlisted after February interview; vague and generic notification that no positions became available (as expected).

Notified that I was removed from the waitlist, which was expected. Wording was... odd. "Though we are unable to provide an individual file review, please know that all of your material was considered thoroughly within this competitive admissions process."

Removed from waitlist (interviewed February, waitlisted). Incredible impersonal communication throughout.

Rejection. Super bummed honestly - really thought I had a good shot. Oh well, not too many spots this year I guess. Better options anyway :)

Admitted with a teaching fellowship 6.5 hours after my interview; formal funding package will be emailed next week

"[...] you are very highly placed on a waiting list for admission with a fellowship. [...] due to Covid restrictions we have only one fellowship to offer this year."

Email to check application portal~~~ Wesleyan recommends you schedule *your own* interview with the faculty to discuss your work/the program, and doesn't send out formalized interview requests the way that other funded composition programs do (to my knowledge, at least,) so don't be worried if you don't get an interview invite email!!!!

I emailed the director of the department to ask for a status update on their admission decision timeline, as I have been offered full funding at 3 other schools but didn't want to make a decision until I heard back from Syracuse. He responded with a very personal and kind email, informing me that they have decided to fund fewer students for Fall '21 so that they can offer an extra year of funding to current PhD students, to help them navigate the current job market. He informed me that I would be selected for the waitlist, but - because I have already received funding elsewhere - I chose to decline the offer. He should be reaching out to other applicants for Zoom interviews. Best of luck to everyone!
