Near And Middle Eastern Civilizations, University Of Toronto The application season seems to be over for me. I made 20 applications and received 5 acceptances. There are two applications that have not been announced so far, but the ones I have received acceptance offers are better than the ones that have not been announced. I wish success to everyone who is waiting for news. My advice to those who will apply next year is not to send an e-mail to only one professor when you apply. Notify all the professors in your field that you have applied by sending an e-mail. I didn't do this when I was applying, but I have seen from those who have been accepted from universities such as Harvard and Princeton that they present projects that they will not actually work on but will be of interest to the department. In this way, you can turn to projects that you will not actually work on, but that will attract the department's attention more and increase your chances of getting accepted. Especially gender is one of these topics...

English, Vanderbilt University MA in Lit with 4.0, presented at international and domestic academic conferences, several publications in progress, received a national endowment for research, developed and taught upper level course, very involved during undergrad, archival work, and had recommendations from several scholars in field.

Creative Writing Poetry, Johns Hopkins University English minor, health allied major. Had some excellent recommendations and a strong resume (volunteered teaching creative writing to high schoolers, some publication history). I did screw up the critique essay-- the prompt on the website and the prompt in the application form were different and I had written based on what was on the website (analyzed someone else's work rather than my own). Attached an apology letter to the front of the critique explaining the situation. Not sure if this was what caused the rejection or if they just didn't really vibe with my sample. They were my #5 school.

Creative Publishing And Critical Journalism, New School For Social Research No email, I just happened to check the portal. My college GPA was average but my after-grad work (publishing, etc) probably helped! Got some funding, too!

IDSS SES, Massachusetts Institute Of Technology I am writing with an update on your application to MIT SES. While it is true that most admissions decisions have now been released, about 10% of applications need one more look. The SES Admissions Committee expects to have a decision for you early next week, likely Monday afternoon or Tuesday. I am sorry we are running late this year, and sorry to keep you in suspense a bit longer. We will work to get you a decision as soon as possible.

Clinical Psychology, University Of Denver 2 MS degrees (3.7 GPA, 4.0 GPA), 20 years research, 15 years clinical work. 12 articles (including in Nature), 15 conference talks, 8 posters. Note that I would not have been able to afford to go anyway since they give no funding anyway.

Clinical Psychology, Adelphi University Have 2 MS degrees (3.7, 4.0 GPAs). 20 years research, 15 years experience in clinical work. This was rejection post-interview. I thought the interview had gone really well.

City And Regional Planning, University Of California, Berkeley E-mail to check the portal. Got in! This is my first choice school. GPA is undergrad. Have many years work experience in planning, and grad school from the US - GPA 4.0

Computer Science, University Of Texas At Austin Did anyone get the admission decision from UT CS? I'm waiting since 12th January. My GPA is grad GPA (3.84) from one of the top uni in USA. Undergrad GPA is quite good but from outside USA. 3.6 years of relevant work experience at top company. 1 5-months international undergrad internship from the same company. No publication but I have little bit of research experience. No GRE, No TOEFL.
