AMO exp, 3 years of research, no publications, great grades, didn't contact professors beforehand, got an email telling me to check status on my application

"The selection has been unusually difficult because of the strong pool of applicants.", Its really difficult to see the rejection from plan B :( Congratulations to those who got in

Computational soft matter or condensed matter physics. I switched to this field from hep-th last year. Two research experiences in hep-th, three researches on computational physics, one on an experimental project, and have a paper in preparation on soft matter. Unofficial offer. I thought they have sent out most of their offers, but luckily I got it. One of my letter writers has collaborations with ucsb, so maybe that’s why my LOR makes a lot of differences this year.

I was told that due to the physics gre not being required they received double the applications of the previous year. My application was scheduled for review on February 28th. It's now March 6 and I haven't heard a response back yet, I've even emailed them for an update and got nothing.

Hep-th - yet another rejection. Starting to believe I will get the infamous "no offer award"...didnt think it was going to be so tough!

TTPB: I accepted my position at ETH, so the other SwissMAP decisions should be coming out soon!

Got an email saying that gravitation/particle theory was extremely competitive and faculty were not looking for that many people this year (I am interested in quantum gravity). They asked if I was interested in other subfields. I guess this means they've selected their gravity/particle theory candidates. Best of luck to those!

Current 1st year graduate student here, looking out for applicants because I remember what it was like! I received an email about the open house that said “applicants will be notified of admissions decisions (hopefully) in mid-February” Sorry you have to be in limbo for a bit longer. Good luck!

Same here. The website states that they would end the application process by 15th March. This delay could have been caused by a bulk of applicants declining their offers for Cornell, Harvard, etc.

Congrats guys! Around what time did they send out those emails on Thursday?

To the poster below: My application status indicate that my application is under review by Department of Physics and no decision made. So I suppose that I am wait listed as I have not received any acceptance or rejection from UTK.

Plasma and Space Physics, I spent a year working with them and their group and was accepted via email yesterday into their Ph.D. program.
