Graduate School Admission Results

Have MA in field as well as research experience at UM. Informed they only accepted two students.

Medical Anthropology focus

“Many applicants, hard decision, etc”, offered to forward my application to the MA program and I accepted. Sad.

Didn't receive an interview invite, so knew this was coming. Oh well!

At least not a straight rejection..? Generic email from the Director, which also suggested that acceptances have been sent out as well (or at least finalized).

To the cornell posters below: when were you all notified? Do you know if the rejections are sent in batches/phases? Still waiting for one!

Eh, c'est la vie. Seriously, though, 4 accepted out of 178....congrats to those admitted!

From the email: "We received 178 applications this year for 4 positions. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer doctoral fellowships to many strong applicants." "Because of the size of the pool of applicants, we do not provide individual feedback to those who are not admitted to the program. I can say however that we use a comprehensive and careful admissions process to make the difficult decision about whom to admit. The admissions committee met to evaluate your candidacy several times and consulted with three to four additional specialists in your field, wherever relevant. We sought candidates with outstanding prior academic records, strong letters of recommendation, ambitious and effective writing samples, and (crucially) statements of purpose compatible with the scholarly and institutional resources at Cornell. In each case, we had to weigh both demonstrated excellence and the fit with our faculty's expertise. As always, such judgments are complex, comparative, and partial; they cannot fully capture any individual applicant's ultimate potential. "

Via portal: In view of the large number of well-qualified applicants and the limited number of spaces available, the admissions committee must be selective in making its recommendations. The selection process is one of identifying those applicants who are best qualified for a specific graduate program, based upon a review of each applicant's file and number of openings in the graduate programs in that field. Your academic preparation and scholarship, letters of recommendation, expressed interests and objectives, and other supporting materials in your file have all been taken into consideration during the committee's review process.

for those who received rejections, is this reflected in your UChicago Account? I'm fully expecting a rejection, but my status still says "submitted."

Rejected but offered spot in the MAPSS program.... jokes on them though I decided like two days after submitting the application that I didn't want to go there LOL
