Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University TTPB I tried the link and instead got a message saying something along the lines of "Unauthorized attempt to access logged". The CMU admissions committee wouldn't consider this as an attempt to hack their admissions server would it?? I'm freaking out rn

Social Psychology, University Of Michigan, Ann Arbor Has anyone heard anything from U Mich for any other psych programs other than clinical psych? I am feeling really discouraged because I haven't heard anything and their Wolverine Access doesn't give any updates as to where the school is at with decisions.

Neuroscienceoscience, UC San Francisco (UCSF) Got an email: There has been a change in the status of your application to the Neuroscience PhD graduate program at UCSF. Then on the application portal, right by the link to access the application it says: rejected. Hope it helps!

Please don't compare yourself to people on this forum - we are all vastly different and have varying access to opportunities. Your interest, commitment and motivation can speak louder than your stats imo

Computer Science, Columbia University TTPB asking about the acceptance rate. This year they had an acceptance rate of ~14% (I was on the admitted student webinar and they informed this thing to us on the webinar; there were many questions asked on this) probably because of Covid I presume (they might have had even lower acceptance rate before I guess). They are very selective and being an IVY league they tend to reject many deserving applications (many people on gradcafe have highlighted this thing over and over again; I agree with this), I have friends who deserved admission but were rejected. Moreover, it is difficult to predict chances of admission to top 20 unis even if you have a solid profile. For instance, I have a Granted Patent as the first inventor, Publication in Q1 IEEE journal (IEEE Access; First and only author), Published over 8 papers in springer (all as first author), produced my own security protocols which received the status of Granted Software Copyrights, Did research internship in DRDO (Indian Defence) and was an external reviewer for IEEE Access. I had a GPA of 8.97 from top Indian Private Institute, had strong recommendation letters (all highlighting my research capabilities), and solid background in security. I applied to 7 unis and was accepted to CMU, UCLA, NYU, USC, Columbia for computer science and got rejected from JHU, UofC. Although, the programs I was accepted to are better than JHU and UofC, my point is that no one can predict there chances of admission to top unis. It is very likely that you get rejected from your safe choice and accepted to your dream school. I will be attending Columbia over all the other offers as Columbia is my dream school. For others waiting, I know few people who are on the same boat, I guess they will announce something very soon. I am very pissed as of why they have not yet released the results. I am waiting for my best friend to get accepted so that we can go together, that's the reason I kind of check the gradcafe website everyday. I feel they are waiting for students to update the university if they cannot make it to Columbia in fall or spring so that they can release the results. In there recent email to the admitted students they had this in the email: "If you are no longer planning to enroll at Columbia in either Fall or Spring, please let me know right away." I hope this gives you some clarity! Because I feel there is still some hope! All the best to others who are waiting!

Economics, US Universities TPB: Although we totally agree in feeling uncomfortable with remote learning, I would say it is highly unlikely that they will change the beginning of core sequences (micro, macro, metrics) to the Spring semester for two main reasons: (1) The start of sequences in the Fall gives a fairly continuous scenario for the courses (only 1-2 weeks of break between courses at the end of the year), while having a sequence starting in the Spring semester would mean around 2-3 months between courses; (2) professors are still expected to do research and teaching, they are not on any kind of hiatus. Several if not most research projects are still ongoing, and are expecting to make use of graduate RAs work time ASAP. That is why universities are trying to make the necessary efforts to accommodate international students, instead of recommending a deferred admission, which, if taken systematically by international students, would mean a terrible impact to the PhD programs. That being said, I should emphasize that remote learning is not the best scenario, and comes with a great deal of issues: State Department regulations on amount of online credits for international students, inability to access a University library and specialized books without online materials, uncertainty about funding and payment-wiring arrangements, difficulty in arranging times for synchronous classes for students in different time zones, etc. The last resort would be to try and get an expedite emergency visa interview at the nearest US Embassy, and then try to board a humanitarian flight to the US. Otherwise, the only two choices are either to accept the online-synchronous setting, or defer admission to Fall 2021. What a horrible year it has been, and we are barely ending June...

Data Science, Northeastern University To those who got accepted for MS Data Science, can you please tell me what does the offer letter say exactly? Does it ask you to submit a certain amount to confirm your admission or you can just accept the offer anyway. I got accepted for this program but through Fulbright so I do not have access to the offer letter myself and I need to know the details of the offer letter.

Science And Technology Studies, Virginia Tech Didn't receive an email! I just checked the portal (the guest access one not the one that lets you see letters of recommendation and saw that I was accepted). There was no mention of funding but I have yet to receive the official letter in the mail which might contain that information. 1a/6r/0w/1pa.
