TTPB: I know that Penn State assigns your thesis director upon your admission to the program, so I would imagine the professor reaching out means that he would most likely be your PI. I do think that it is possible to change labs during your first year, however. But yes, agreeing to work in his lab would probably mean you would not be considered by the other professors.

Received an email from a professor, asking if I will be interested in joining his lab. Does agreeing to it mean I will not be considered by the professors whom I mentioned in my application?

To the person enquiring about the UPenn rejection, I didn't submit my GRE score as it was waived. I am from a Tier-2 college with a GPA of 9.6/10 (3.94/4).

to the fellow (who posted on 20 Jan, has 3 International papers and 2 national) who didn't get accepted from UPenn, sorry to hear that I'm sure with your stellar profile you shall get accepted somewhere. Would you mind sharing your stats please? GRE scores, undergraduate GPA and undergraduate college (tier 1,2 etc) are important in admissions.

3 International Paper, 2 National Paper. Placed first in numerous tech competitions. 2 years of work experience in core CS at a FAANG.

Applied before the early deadline

Does UPenn even have a computer science ms? I looked at the website they are all Master of engineering which are basically professional degrees (no research).
