Guys, do you think it is a good idea to negotiate funding offers? Or, are they fixed and we shouldn't even try? Has anyone tried negotiating?

I got rejections from all the universities I applied for in the first year. The main reason was that I was too ambitious. What I did for the second year: 1. I made realistic and pragmatic choices. Schools ranked between 200-300 are good too. 2. I worked hard for 4 months and published a paper in a decent Q2 journal. 3. I made connections with two scholars outside of my home country via email. They tremendously helped me to publish my paper and also gave me strong LoRs. And all this worked! I got funded offers in the second year. Additionally, a high GRE quant score (say 165 or above) makes your profile competitive. I love the US but there are good schools in other countries. Do not limit yourself to a specific region. Good luck!

Hi Guys. I know rankings are very subjective and often not exhaustive enough to make decisions. But, just for reference, what do you guys think is the most credible ranking source we could follow to make comparisons?

To the "Soo Sad" guy below: Please do not lose hope. This is life. Full of disappointments. My close friend got rejections from like 20 schools the first year. In the second year, he got into a top 50 school. I myself got rejections from 13 schools in the first year. This year I have gotten 4 acceptances so far. So, just keep trying and be positive. Most of us have experienced these feelings.

If you're thinking about giving up, please don't! I graduated in 2010 and am just now going to school! As you can see my GPA isn't very impressive. Last year I applied to 3 schools and was unsuccessful. This year I applied to 6 and put my heart and soul into it and have been accepted to the 2 best programs I applied to. Now, I believe it all happened for a reason! If you don't get in, don't give up! You could end up somewhere better next year!

I was in your position last year, and used the extra year to teach english abroad! It's been a great experience! Now I'm happily admitted for this fall and ready to start grad work....sometimes life has other plans. Go explore!

to the person who posted about pre-reqs: I too have a degree in speech path, BS, and the school I'm accepting my offer to is requiring me to take 2 classes that I know I've taken at the undergraduate level. I provided the grad program w/the undergrad course descriptions, and they said the classes I took don't exactly match up w/ theirs. I tried my hardest to get out of it, but looks like I'm stuck. Hopefully the material will be easier for me, since I've definitely taken a similar version of these! good luck to you

Is anyone concerned about Pre-Reqs even though they have a bachelors degree in communication disorders?? I have a B. A. degree in comm disorders from UConn and applied to and was accepted at BU, Southern CT state University, URI, Nova. And ALL of these programs said if my pre-reqs do not transfer/are the same as their pre-reqs I have to go back and take the undergrad classes. I never thought I would have to worry about going back and taking undergrad classes when I have a BA degree in it! This is now a huge determining factor for me picking schools. BU- said I have to take 2 pre-reqs Southern CT state -said I have to take 8 pre-reqs ( thats a whole year of just doing undergrad almost) URI- 3 pre reqs needed Nova -1 pre req Does anyone else have this problem??????

To the poster below deciding between hunter and nyu. I have heard that hunters program is great. A close friend of mine is an SLP who went to school here in nyc and she said hunter has a great program. There have been negative things going around about hunter but this is the third or fourth person who has said hunter over nyu. Just giving my two sense! Good luck with our decision.
