TTPB: Thanks for the heads up. Sorry to hear about your rejection. If you are ok with answering - when did you get that email about MPC review? Did the DGS tell you to contact with any questions/watch for an email from MPC? Appreciate the help.

To the poster below: actually I received a similar email saying they are very interested in my application and it is under review by MPC. I had my hopes high, but I got rejected today. I guess it was my bad luck or my application was not strong enough for MPC folks. Now that they have rejected many applicants, I am sure and hope you'll get in, but a heads up just in case.

Email from DGS telling me the department is closely considering my application. "The Sociology Department committee has had our say, and now the Minnesota Population Center committee is working with a selected set of applications, of which yours is one."

Did not submit GRE. I received an email from the department head of Graduate division. The email indicated I will be receiving another email from DGS later on to doubly confirm. 0a/4r/6p

Email from Director of Graduate Studies stating I'm not chosen for admission and that I'll get another notification from the Graduate admissions office with the rejection.

To the poster who got rejection from UMinnesota, did you inquire from the Grad coordinator or directly got an email?

I was interviewed, told I was on the shortlist and very likely to get a fellowship, and I have now been rejected. No email, just through the portal.

Invited to the virtual visit day

Received email stating that I am in the "hold" pool of candidates, which essentially sounds like a sort of waitlist for "students who the committee was excited about and see as strong candidates, who might be invited for an interview/admission in the future". There are three pools: invited candidates (for the virtual visit day), "hold" candidates, and rejected candidates. Congrats to the invited candidates!
