Graduate School Admission Results

Fall 2023 not 2022! Got an email from the program coordinator. Interview will be on January 10th. Other stats: Did an honors thesis, worked in schools for a few years as an after school program director, a teacher, and a special projects coordinator, amongst other things. Worked in 2 different labs during undergrad, took a gap year to work in a school, was the president of a club in undergrad, was an RA, was a nanny, and graduated undergrad from a top 10 ranked school in education.

Emailed offering invite date in Jan

For Fall 2023. Did not take GRE. Undergrad institution: UC Berkeley (California community college transfer, first-gen, and re-entry student). Undergraduate Degree: B.A. in Psychology. Two years of experience in a systems neuroscience lab as an undergrad (completed my honors thesis in this lab). Six months of experience so far in a cognitive neuroscience lab at UC Berkeley (where I currently work as a lab manager & research assistant. Graduated in December 2021). No publications yet. Currently working on a poster abstract (mentioned this in personal statement).

Got a call for an interview. Stats are pretty average (~3.4 GPA), strong letters (I think?). 2 years of full-time research, a few months into an industry position. 2 publications, mid-author.

Didn't take GRE

WOW. I was not expecting this. Got a phone call, and I was so shocked. Last week I had no interviews- this morning I got 3.

Invited to interview with two faculty in area of interest, interview is early January.

Preliminary interview!

Alert: this school has a history of ghosting applicants (or just international applicants). Interviewed in February, the interviewer told me the results would come out early March, but I was notified that I was waitlisted in April. The admission committee asked if i was willing to wait till June 1, which i agreed. But to my disappointment, nothing happened by the day. I felt like the school completely ignored my application. Since March, when the results should have come out, i had been writing to the admission committee again and again. They NEVER replied -- they didnt even read any of my emails (i had email tracker installed)
