Strong Acads, research experience (2 published papers, first author) and 3 years work experience.. (Nvidia) 3 internship (Google, IIT-Delhi, CMU) What else do they need?

From an IIT, had 3 industrial and 2 international research internships with 3 papers (1 at top conference) and 3 Strong LORs from well known profs. Thought I had a good chance. getting rejected from everywhere. :( Congrats to all admitted applicants and best of luck to all.

After speaking with the admissions chair, these are the messages I can offer to you. This application term was extraordinarily competitive, with a very high volume of applicants. Based on our capacity limits, we admitted applicants with the top scores and grades. While your application was competitive, the department had to choose those that stood out the most. The applications are reviewed on a whole and many things were taken into consideration. The order that the applications were received, area within in the program, the number of seats that were available, MS versus PhD plan compatibility, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, previous coursework, and test scores were all taken into high regard. I understand your disappointment and frustration and wish you all the best in your future education and career.
