Graduate School Admission Results

Received an email from the Grad Admission Chair. (2a/0w/1r/many)

1a/0r/19p. No email; I checked the portal and saw acceptance. Emailed the department and they confirmed the decision. Also selected for a potential university fellowship.

I figured I'd put this here for future candidates: Interviewed at Duke today. My interview, at least, was essentially SoP in interview form: Why are you pursuing PhD? What topics interest you? Why are you applying to Duke? Writing sample questions (including some questions probing criticism) Here's hoping I didn't make a fool of myself! I got the sense that this is a final cut type of interview rather than a vetting of candidates they hoped to accept. But I may be wrong. Posting to give insight because these interviews are relatively new and it's good to have the information out there.

Accepted with nomination for one of the university-wide fellowships. Yay!!! (1a/0w/1r/more than 20p)

"Your application for admission to graduate study in Logic and Philosophy of Science program at the University of California, Irvine has been given serious consideration by the admissions committee. We must regretfully notify you that your application to our graduate program for Fall 2024 has been denied."

Ignore status. Has anyone heard anything from UCSB? I know around this time they begin to release acceptances.

In the portal, the decision letter read, "While your application to the Doctor of Philosophy program in Philosophy and Education was given extensive consideration, the Admission Committee believed that your preparation and credentials were better aligned with the Master of Education program in Philosophy and Education. Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to the Master of Education program in Philosophy and Education in the Department of Arts and Humanities for the 2024 Fall term." So, I was rejected for the PhD but given admission to a program for which I did not apply. From my research, that program does not have any funding, and is long (60 credits). Also, It is difficult, since I already have a MA in education. Decision letter also specifies "no promise" of admission to any other program. (i.e. a PhD there afterward.)

Ignore status. Anyone heard from OSU yet?
