Graduate School Admission Results

To the WCU poster below- I completely understand how you feel. WCU has an extremely low acceptance rate- sways between 7 and 8 percent each year re: ASHA EdFind. Typically, they accept their own students first, who qualify, then go to their pool of other applicants as they receive their replies back. While they do rank lower, the ranking of the school really doesn't matter as long as the school is ASHA accredited in the time frame of your enrollment. I believe WCU is popular because of their location. I know several people who have applied here, gotten in most of their other schools (which yes are ranked higher, but have considerably higher acceptance rates), and still haven't heard from WCU - knowing the waitlist timeline they post. I'm not saying the way they do it is right or wrong, and at least it sounds like you had your pick of some awesome schools!

To the POLIS poster below - I don't think the department has told anyone who has been nominated for funding. It hasn't come up on here or the Student Room. Did you speak to the department about it? Do you think they would tell us if we ask whether or not we were nominated?

Invited to interview on 1/28/16

I had an interview there and I didn't click with any of the faculty, and had already decided that I would not attend before the day was even over. Not surprised that I was denied, I was unenthusiastic about the school once I had gotten the chance to see the department in person. One prof even asked me the likelihood of me attending since I had gotten into better schools... O well, I had accepted my top-choice school before even getting their decision

TPB who asked about how UBC has informed about the acceptances. I got this mail from Prof. Henry Siu " I hope you are doing well. Thank you for submitting your application to the Vancouver School of Economics PhD program at the University of British Columbia. As the director of admissions, I am very happy to inform you that your application has been accepted. I, and everyone who looked at your file, was very impressed. We hope that you will choose to come to UBC! Right now we are still putting together information on funding, and an official notification from the VSE will be sent out to you next week. However, I did not want to delay in contacting you; it is always nice to share good news in time for the weekend! In the meantime, please let me know if you have any offers or deadlines from other schools that we should be aware of. Given your accomplishments and promise, I would not be surprised if you have other offers and wish to withdraw from consideration; in that case, please let me know and I wish you the very best success. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns that you want to chat about. You can reach me either by replying to this email, or at my official email address: henry.siu@ubc.ca; both accounts get forwarded to this Gmail account. I hope to see you at UBC in the Fall of 2019!". I am a Master's student from India.

Disappointed

Sent to permanent address. Received assistantship. So excited!

Got accepted to this program! I heard that this year class is about 30-35 spots. I am so excited!
