Just 1 oral presentation... weird

Checked the admissions portal. This was posted: Jan. 31 update: Our admissions committee has extended interview invitations to everyone whom we anticipate interviewing, and we have now received confirmation of receipt from all of them. We will most likely admit from this pool of applicants, but are not sending out final admissions decisions to the rest of the applicants in case the committee decides to extend interview invitations to a few more applicants. We expect to email final notifications to those who were not interviewed by March 11.

Thought I had a decent shot of getting in given the other places I'd been admitted. Going on ~2 years research, good letters, 3.9 undergrad gpa, 164 Quant/161 Verbal/5.5 Writing GRE, 89% Chem Subject. Had >2 years of TAing experience as well.

they strangely didn't send out any notifications, but the decisions are posted on their website.

I am truly sorry to inform you that we will not be able to offer you admission to the Department of Political Science for the graduate student class entering this fall.

I'M SO EXCITED. Only applied to four schools. Huge gamble, but it paid off. Things that worked in my favor: Several national and international awards, including Gates Cambridge and Goldwater; REUs at Harvard and MIT, very strong letters, graduated summa cum laude. Things that worked against me: Not so stellar GRE scores.

Less than 6% were admitted out of 900 applicants. Worth a try though! I had no publications, but I had work connections with faculty and active projects at the Media Lab.

I guess my statement of objectives must have come off a little too noncomMITtal.
