Email by Julie. I have been selected as one of the finalists! Virtual campus visit on 4th March. I do not know if I should celebrate now or wait untill the formal letter. Is it possible to be rejected after a campus visit?

Same email is the posters below. Feels like I am in school again, softening the blow before the real blow. Give it to me. reject me on the face. no need to prep me.

Got an email from the director of graduate studies

Thank you for applying to the Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. program at Stanford. At this time, we have notified all of our interview candidates and while our decisions have not been finalized, most admitted Ph.D. students are selected for interviews.

GPA 3.5/4. Decent SOP, solid recos, 4 publications, good research experience. Still not good enough for Stanford!!

I was notified that I was NOT selected for an interview by the Stanford ME Department. "Thank you for applying to the Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. program at Stanford. At this time, we have notified all of our interview candidates and while our decisions have not been finalized, most admitted Ph.D. students are selected for interviews. Final decisions will be released by early March, and we are unable to provide information regarding application status before decision release. However, we did want to provide you with this update about the cycle." The email was sent by the Graduate Admissions Officer.

Stanford offer is real, I also got one, same financial package

Can anyone else confirm if the Stanford soc admits are real? A stipend of 47,000 looks really suspicious to me--only b-schools have that high.

TTPB: Thank you! The email was from the chair of the admissions committee. Standard funding package was offered which is $47,000 for the first full year without teaching responsibilities, including a summer RA-ship. All quarters of year 2-5 and three quarters of year 6 (without summer) also guaranteed.

True! It was too generic. I guess they just want to see if are not insane. I wonder why they would waste so much time on interviewing so many candidates.

graduated in 3 years in Sept. 2020 (UCLA) Phi Beta Kappa; limited research experience; didn't submit GRE; major in American lit & Spanish ; URM (double minority); received full scholarship from UCLA foundation for my undergrad

TTPB: the interview was good. But I doubt the interview has a critical role to play in acceptance, given how generic it was.

Really disappointed but not at all surprised. I think it favours phD, but hoping to try again next admissions cycle.
