Accepted to the program, but crazy expensive.....

Unbelievable... hope this is not like some mistake they did before. Under is math from the top univ in the country. Low GPA. Toefl 102 w/ speaking 20. 1.5 yrs in ML research. 4 yrs in startups intern. No pub. 2 Google summer of code experience. Some open source experience.

After all the confusion, a confirmation mail from the Director of Admissions. Phew.

Research workshop at CMU, semester exchange at known school, 1 LOR from U Pitt prof, some research experience. Dream school; disappointed. Off to U Penn I guess.

To those students thinking about coming to CMU and getting into the Ph.D. program after the master's program. This is not a cakewalk ride - it actually depends on the person whom you are working with. CMU is a cash cow and if there is no cash you can get literally screwed. There are several factors which come into play and in fact even for the jobs these days all that matters is the kind of work you have done and not where you are from. Remember this and make your decision. PS - I have done my masters at CMU and do know all kinds of details

Those who did not get reply from CMU, can it be assumed that application is rejected or is there still a chance?

EE undergrad from top 15 US school. No papers. 1 year of work exp. Internships at Amazon and Qualcomm.

Currently working in Amazon for the past 6 months. Interned in Amazon for another 6 months. Have one international conference paper, two international journal papers in review. Multiple research projects, mostly aligned towards machine learning in computer vision.

2+ years working experience, 3 publications and a patent.

Thapar University B.E. CS - 8.9CGPA, 2months internship at Microsoft, 6months internship in Data Integration domain, 1 year work ex by Fall 2016 in DI domain, CEH, CCNA. Ambi option. Seems they take only toppers, that too with research exp of some sort
