To the person I was conversing with: Gotcha. And yes, now that's flat-out wrong. Having a good fit doesn't guarantee admission, especially at a school that's as selective as Princeton. There are literally more than a hundred students who think they're a good fit for the program and a professor, and hence apply. Getting into these schools is never "really easy," no matter what your expertise is. That person totally underestimated how hard it is to get into a Ph.D. program and gave you advice that's out of touch with reality. I wish you luck in getting into other schools, though.

Damn Yale, you're tough. 3 excellent LORs, extensive East Asian Studies background including at Ivy League for undergrad and several years work experience in China. Congratulations to everyone accepted!

Eight offers this year. Like last year, all already have MAs.
