Sociology Graduate School Admission Results

Received an informal congratulation letter from Graduate Studies director, saying that an official offer letter would follow shortly.

Waitlisted originally. Notified today via email that I was officially rejected. They had been very good at communication throughout this process, so I kind of knew it was coming.

My rejection letter arrived after I called today. It had been issued since Feb 28 and I am not sure that I would have received it had I not reached out. I was applying as a master's student into their PhD program. I had already applied as an undergrad for which I received notification of rejection in June 2019. Really poor ethics on letting their prospective students know about decisions. Very disheartened to have had to wait unnecessarily and telling myself not to reach out to them.

Initially on the waitlist, been told that I was posited high on the list. Notified by the DGS that their spots have been filled this year on April 12th. Super bummed as it was my top choice. Congrats to those who are admitted!

Was waitlisted March 4th, emailed by the chair of the admissions committee for the soc department. A couple of weeks later was told I was high on the waitlist, to "please not give up hope," and to let her know before I made any decisions on other schools. Really had the perception I was next in line and they didn't want someone else to poach me (this was my top program). She emailed me on April 12th to inform me the final admitted applicant they had been waiting on accepted and they were closed for the admissions season. Really bummed about this - Brandeis was my dream school. Congrats to those lucky 3 who got the available spots.

IGNORE WAITLIST. Should I be worried that I haven't received a decision and my application is still at the pre-screen stage? I applied back in January and am starting to lose hope. Do you think acceptance is still possible?

(3.89 major GPA) UMD was my second choice after Cornell. However, after the egregious lengths I had to go to in order to receive my decision (2 emails one month apart and 1 call), they went to the bottom. It is absolutely, 100% unprofessional to keep applicants waiting for their initial decision until 9 days before the commitment date. Insane. Do not apply here.

initially waitlisted. got email from Grad Director saying a spot opened up were I still interested.

Canadian applicant. Master's GPA 3.67, strong research experience, teaching experience, strong reference letters, etc. Very surprised :/ It was a torture to wait for the results

Hi, ignore the waitlist. Has anyone here heard any updates from Stanford? Mine was submitted in Nov 2021, and my portal is still showing "Complete." I even do not know if I am put on the waitlist or not. or does it mean an informal rejection? is there anyone facing the same situation as mine? It would be highly appreciated if you have any information from this institution! THANK YOU!

IGNORE THE WAITLIST. Has anyone heard from Maryland regarding their application? I, quite literally, feel like I'm stuck in limbo. I haven't received an acceptance, rejection, or a waitlist. What gives? Is anyone else in this situation?
