Graduate School Admission Results

Interview scheduled on March 1st. Zoomed with three writing professors and the program director; the meeting lasting about 30 minutes. They asked about my work and how certain books or aspects of my life influenced my work. About ten minutes was dedicated to asking questions.

email to check portal. I was waiting for this rejection tbh as I knew they had already sent out acceptances & waitlists a while back.

English minor, health allied major. Had some excellent recommendations and a strong resume (volunteered teaching creative writing to high schoolers, some publication history). I did specifically mention wanting to write with Rita Dove, but heard later from a mentor that apparently her health is suffering right now and she is not teaching very actively, which may have affected their consideration. They were my #4 school.

I did screw up the critique essay-- the prompt on the website and the prompt in the application form were different and I had written based on what was on the website (analyzed someone else's work rather than my own). Attached an apology letter to the front of the critique explaining the situation. Not sure if this was what caused the rejection or if they just didn't really vibe with my sample. They were my #5 school.
