Physics Graduate School Admission Results

HEP-th. One of the things I really like about UCB is how they wait 4 days after telling people that they're admitted to tell people that they're rejected. This policy clearly makes a lot of sense since a lot might change in 4 days.

Three publications, one first author published paper, one first accepted paper, one second author paper under review. They mentioned that they received over 550 applications for 20 places so it was almost impossible to get into. I applied to Physics with particular interests in Cosmology.

Ignore waitlist. To applicants for 2023/24 and beyond, I would recommend trying to establish contact with desired PIs before paying for an application. Particularly in hep-th, it seems this year they accepted $140 application fees while being (at least partially) knowingly unable to accept a single applicant. Extremely disappointing considering the fairness and transparency we otherwise take for granted in our research.

Anyone got into HEP-Th please post.

If anyone got in for HEP-th, please post so. I feel like *someone* must have gotten in because their theory group is big. But if no-one got in, that's a giant scam...

I emailed the faculty I wanted to work with and he replied me last year before sending my app: “Thank you for thinking of us in this important step in your career. You are an excellent candidate for such. But at this time we have no openings for the PhD program.” I went to submit the application since they have waived app fee. Nothing to lose.

Hep-th. Seems lile they have accepted none this time. This is really a scam! 140$ successfully spent to get rejected
