Wow the amount of racism in this forum is embarrassing. The point of affirmative action is not just about the racism a certain group faces. Black, Hispanic, and Native American people have gone through systemic racism and discrimination that started centuries ago and has survived headstrong till date and puts the majority of them at a LARGE disadvantage from the get go wrt various socio-economic factors. That is not the same thing as (typically) privileged upper caste Indians flying down to the U.S, or whatever the Asian equivalent is. I am Indian by the way, and yes I have faced racism in the US, we all will, and it sucks monkey b*lls. Don't contribute to it and don't be pompous enough to dismiss the talents and accomplishments of all the talented folks of marginalized communities because of their race, lol what even. It's okay to feel disappointed about a reject, but this sort of attitude is disgusting. Also at the Columbia CS people, it'll be rolling for a longg while so calm down.

TTPB: Do you think that the only minorities that are discriminated against are Black, Hispanic, and Native American people? Why don't the rest of us get affirmative action to make up for the discrimination we face? I agree that these racist comments are pretty ridiculous, but as an East Indian, I'm tired of universities, companies, and organizations gaslighting me about my own experiences with institutional and academic racism as if only certain groups can face it. I've heard similar sentiments from my East Asian and Middle Eastern friends as well who had to face great amounts of racism especially post-COVID and post-9/11.

Hi, to the racist below (ttrb), there is such a thing called systemic racism, and affirmative action is in place to set aside intentional space for marginalized communities in recognition of the intertwining of other societal and inequitable economic factors affecting them that make it HARDER to gain admittance. The whole point is to AMPLIFY. Btw, I'm white, and I'm hella not a CS major, but it bugs the absolute shizznit out of me when I see my perfectly-capable, insanely intelligent Black brothers and sisters discriminated against like that. Just leave them alone, please? Thx.

I have 2 offers elsewhere but this is my top choice as my family is in Boston. If you do not intend to accept your offer please let admissions know when possible and hopefully I can make a decision as well and clear my 2 offers for other people.

No update on my application status yet, even though it seems someone was rejected and a few were wait-listed. I was wondering if anyone knows if CSR is admitting any PhD students to Islamic Studies this year? I haven't spoken to anyone who has applied for Islamic Studies yet.

Classic Harvard GSAS...sending rejections two weeks later after acceptances came out. Stats: econ & math undergrad degree from an ivy league school and master's from another top 5 school. Had 3 years of quantitative work experience (1 of those as a data scientist in tech) and submitted what I thought were strong letter of recommendations from professors and managers at work. Worked on a ML paper pending submission, so still no clue what they were looking from in candidates even after looking at some of the profiles of people who reported being accepted below. They seems to either want people with 5+ years of data science work experience or people fresh out of undergrad...but nothing in between?

Hi everybody. One important point is that there is a chain when someone rejects an offer. Say that person A is admitted both at MIT and Harvard. When A rejects Harvard offer, person B who is on the waiting list of Harvard is picked up. As B is now accepted in Harvard, he rejects his Stanford offer. This chain can potentially continue to very low ranking universities. Therefore, it is genuinely helpful if those who are admitted at high ranking universities decline their less preferred offers. Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone in the rest of the admissions process.

Though I was expecting this, I have 0 published research paper and 10years of Industry Experience in R&D. Applied for Cloud Computing(Micro Data Center). After careful review, I regret to inform you that the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is unable to take favorable action on your application to the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The number of promising applicants well exceeded the number of offers of admission we can make for the 2021-2022 academic year. I know that this decision comes as a disappointment. Unfortunately, enrollment of new students is limited to a small fraction of those who are qualified for admission. I want to assure you that your application received full consideration by faculty members in the program to which you applied. We appreciate your interest in the Graduate School and wish you success in your future studies.
