English Graduate School Admission Results

PhD rejection, MA acceptance with a 50% scholarship. Note for next year's applicants: they tend to prefer those with Master's degrees.

BA GPA: 3.9/4 MA GPA: 4/4

It took a 4months before they got back to me but I thank God it ended in praise.

Accepted by email, with 60% funding for Master's ("to recognize the strength of your application with an English Department Award which will cover an additional 10% of your tuition costs"). Will be declining, this was my safety program-- accepted to better PhD programs. (3a/6r/1p)

Emailed with a PhD rejection but MA acceptance. Got into a bunch of better programs so don't really mind. Congrats to acceptees! 5a/6r/1w

Rejected from the PhD but accepted to the MA program with 50% tuition. Not sure what I'll do—this was my top program, so unless I get another PhD offer, I'll be tempted to take the MA spot.

Rejected from PhD, Accepted to the MA which I will be rejecting. Letter states "One factor to bear in mind is that PhD programs in English are increasingly receiving applications from those who already have, or are in the process of completing, a Master's degree: this was the position of over 50% of those who have been accepted into our own PhD program in the last few years." I heard this about NYU while applying, and turns out it's true. Just something to keep in mind for those applying next cycle!

I emailed the DGS because I just want the waiting to be over at this point. A very nice admin got back to me and said that official decisions are going out next week but that she could tell me I was not accepted. The wait is almost over my friends; hang in there! 1a/1w/3r/0p

email to check portal, unsurprising as their faculty aren't super strong in my area of interest but their archives are perfect so I am a bit sad. That said, I can visit their archive without needing to be enrolled there! Almost through this season and grateful to have done fairly well. Good luck to everyone! 6a/1w/7r/2p

Email stating an app status change. Told to check site. Obviously, getting that email is no bueno.

Email: "application status change, check portal." New what that meant before I even looked. Had zero illusions of getting into Harvard anyway, despite anything...
