I got rejected, but I'm glad I went for it!

Ah well!

Now if only I could get some funding.

I received an email from a professor who studies similar research as me. She congratulated me and expressed that the university is very excited and hopeful that I will accept the offer. Has anyone else gotten this type of personal email for acceptance? I really am leaning toward UCSD and if they are personally this interested in me I might just got ahead and accept. So excited and grateful!!

Graduated from the #1 public university with 3.85 gpa, 2 conferences, and LORs from top processors in my field who knew me very well and each had nominated me for some award or other (i.e. not a generic letter). Oh well! I’ll try again next year. “The English, PHD program at Brown University appreciates the opportunity to review your materials. 4.0 GPA on my masters, four years teaching experience, I've written a course, had work published, presented at several conferences, and am a chair for an academic organization. Form e-mail says less than 12% accepted.

Trash-ass, racist school. They only accept white students, that's why they don't display Student Profiles on their Department page.

Thorough, informative email that is encouraging but realistic. Hopefully I'll get to change this to 'accepted' eventually! If you decide Boston isn't for you, please let them know as soon as possible! :)
