Email from POI requesting interview

ttpb: Great that your interviews went really well! I do not know exactly how many students were interviewed, however, I was told that there are 14 places this year, out of 360 applications. Too bad, they emphasized, they'd still have to turn down some people after interviewing them. Meanwhile, my interviews with the two professors were equally informal except for the one with the Ph.D. student who asked more technical questions, including examples, about my area of interest. It was fun nonetheless. Good luck to everyone waiting it out!

So I guess those of us who have not yet heard from Cornell should assume we are rejected. Interesting that there is only on acceptance here.

Didn't have any interviews, this was the first notification they gave me. They said they had funding issues.

Does anyone knows when will we hear back from them?

Nothing from Cornell yet...if you look at past years, they did not receive status updates until early February. So hopefully we'll hear good news!

Did anyone hear back from Cornell? It was one of the first schools which I applied to and still nothing.

Received an email from the department's administrative assistant inviting me for an interview with two faculty members and a current Ph.D. student in the program. All interviews must occur before January 29th. The interviews went really nice and were more like an informal conversation to get to know more about my background, goals for the Ph.D. program, and why Cornell. During the interview via Zoom, both professors said the first round of admissions notifications are going to be announced to candidates sometime between February 10-15. This is the timeline that the program followed in previous years. Does anybody know how many students get interviews and how many actually get an offer?

From my understanding, the interview is basically a sanity check. Can the applicant string a sentence together? Yes? Ok, now back to their resume.

Received an email for an interview with 2 faculty members.

TPB: That is weird because the interviewer explicitly mentioned in the beginning that "you're not being evaluated" and that the interview will not play a role in the final decision. If that is true and if they're only accepting 2-3, why are they even interviewing all 10 of us? Guess we'll find out soon enough

Yes, I asked the interviewer explicitly. The interviewer also said that they will not be giving out "over-offers" this year (i.e., they only give out the exact # of offers as students they can accept). In most years they'll send out extra offers because inevitably people will decline to attend a different school (which might leave them with an unusually large class size). But this year, they'll only send out additional offers if people decline before the April 15 deadline.

I was interviewed last Wednesday for the development track. They said they were interviewing 10 candidates to fill 2-3 spots so it's pretty depressing.... especially since the email made it sound very likely we would get in.

TTPB: I have been told that they interview all of their short-listed candidates. However, I don't think they have sent their interview invites yet.
