Email with letter from Prof. Linn. NO funding right now. rnTTPD: Did you get the funding info from AREC?

"you are under active consideration". Page-long letter that says they want to offer me but the pandemic has "made uncertain their future funding avenues" and they "anticipate making many more offers over the next ~5 weeks" So kinda like an unusual wait-list letter I suppose. Obligatory: Hep-ex, 3.8, renowned recommender.

Decent GPA, No publications, 3 years of research experience and No GRE

E-mail indicating application status update, with an acceptance letter in application portal. Tuition remission + assistantship. Woohoo!

CM-exp. No prior interview. TTPB: "There were over 800 applicants this year... for about 25 spots in our entering class."

Checked portal status today. Changed to “under grad review”, which I learned from someone else on the forum means rejection. Good luck to others!

Indian student, 3.74/4.00 UG GPA, 3 summer research projects (one in astronomy). No publications. Couple of months of TA experience.

Got an invitation for interview today from DGS :)

TTPB: Some committees will recommend that an applicant gets rejected or waitlisted if they think that you will not accept the offer. It streamlines the process on their end (or so I have heard). Also, astro people all know each other, so it wouldn't surprise me if committees talk across schools and coordinate acceptances. (again, this is all hearsay don't take it for Gospel).

Did anyone else that got rejected receive a follow-up email from a professor on their interview committee with the reason of rejection? Is this standard for UMD, or other schools? 5 co-authorships, 1 first author paper in prep, 4 years of research experience.

19k 9-month stipend for duration of MA. Haven't decided if I'm going yet. But it's the first school I heard back from... Yay!

TTPB -- i was the one who asked the question about why acceptances elsewhere would be a determining factor. That was not meant to question you at all!! I was just concerned with the fact that they were asking you to let them know if you got in elsewhere! That just seems (very!!) unfair to me and I was wondering if they had given you more details on why they were asking you about your other acceptances! database threads are hard to communicate on! :)
