Form rejection: Your application for admission to the Ph.D. program in the Department of English at Stanford University has been carefully reviewed. I regret to inform you that the department is not able to admit you to the program. As you may know, our program is an extremely small one, with a typical incoming cohort of only 6-8 students. There are thus a great many more qualified candidates than available positions, making our task especially onerous. I can assure you that these are very difficult decisions, and the entire faculty approaches the process with extraordinary care and consideration. We regret that due to restricted resources it is not possible to provide applicants with an individual response regarding admission. I wish that the Admissions Committee had happier news to convey. We very much appreciate your interest in Stanford University and wish you all the best for the future.

Management Science & Engineering (MS&E), Stanford University Expected but still disappointed.. For those who may be interested in the background, double major in Industrial Engineering and Mathematics, 2 years of research experience

Aerospace Engineering, Stanford University Had two yrs of research experience at university lab. Two international conf. papers. Great LORs. I also specifically indicated that I wanted to continue for PhD and wrote three faculty I wanted to work with, this may have had a positive affect. There is no info on fellows or assistantships yet. I wish the best of luck to everyone applying for all their applications! Keep you morals high, offers continue until mid-March!

Center For East Asian Studies (CEAS), Stanford University School gives me a fellowship to cover 1st yr tuition ($48K). Got into all 3 programs in East Asian Studies I applied for. Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Yale offered full-funding and generous living stipend. I'm still waiting to hear from Harvard how much money they'll give. I think my relatively strong working experiences, strong LoR and SoP got me in.
