Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland Global Campus To the poster asking about UMD Mechanical Engineering admissions. I haven't been assigned a PhD guide yet and had not contacted the faculty before admission. I received the admission acceptance without any interview as well. To the Grad Cafe community: I haven't received any word on funding yet. On contacting the department, the coordinator replied that the department is not offering me any funding at this time and I was admitted as a self support candidate. I may choose to independently seek out funding sources for my admission. What does this mean and how common is this for PhD applications? Is it advisable to attend without financial assistance? Is a PhD possible without any funding from the university?

Economics, University of Maryland Global Campus Email from Vickie Fletcher! Do not despair if you're waiting on UMD. I was convinced yesterday it was an implicit rejection but got an email late this morning. 4a/0w/7r/10p (6 of the 10 pending are implicit rejections)

Computer Science, University of Maryland To the UMCP poster below: No publications. Undergrad major: ECE. A Gold medal from the National Olympiad in Informatics. I was notified via an email from the CS department. They said that "The University's Graduate School will send you official confirmation of your admission." No Portal Status Update Yet.
