Graduate School Admission Results

It was almost April and I hadn't received any update since I submitted my application, so I called and the DGS told me that I was denied. I'm disappointed (my only rejection) but at least I'm no longer in limbo and can move on and compare my other options.

Emailed head of department. Unfunded, but excited out of my mind!!!

Accepted with full funding/stipend

If funded but not attending, please let them know!! "Currently, you are waitlisted for funding. In fact, you are near the top of that list"

Very nice call from POI; offered 5 year assistantship package, but will likely be declining soon due to other funded PhD offers at programs with a better fit.

Was accepted to MA but not PhD with no word on funding. Fine considering I will be declining with multiple Fellowship PhD offers at more reputable programs.

Emailed Kathleen Lynch about application status, received a nice email detailing where I could improve my application next time round. Actually the best rejection I've gotten so far.

Email from DGS in reply to my inquiry. Not terribly surprised.

I had already accepted another offer, so this wasn't as upsetting as it might otherwise have been. However, the rejection letter was incredibly rude, going so far as to describe my years of study and work in the field as "inadequate". UBC used to be a dream school, but my communication with them throughout this process has not inspired many positive feelings towards the graduate department.

Accepted into the program with two years of full funding. I will be turning this down soon because I have funded PhD offers, so best of luck to those on the waitlist.
