Graduate School Admission Results

Has anyone heard from University of Michigan? With the exception of the University of Toronto, I have not heard anything from any of the programs I applied to. Particularly curious about UM as its one of my top picks.

Standard rejection message. The "Dear" was left blank so I assume it was a copy and paste type of thing. My research fit perfectly with that of the faculty's so pretty bummed. "Dear : We regret to inform you that the Graduate Program in American Culture at the University of Michigan is unable to offer you a place in our 2021-22 class. This year, we received a particularly strong pool of applicants and are only able to admit a limited number of applicants. With so many talented and interesting students applying, we based our final decisions on factors beyond mere quality, including the fit between applicant research interests and our program's strengths and the need to maintain balance among the various disciplines and interdisciplinary fields represented in the Department in American Culture. We want you to know that we sincerely appreciate the interest you have shown in our program, as well as the time and energy you put into your application. Please accept our sincerest best wishes in your future endeavors."

Email didn't even have my name. It's a blow but I know they're super selective. Congrats to those who made it!

Rather expected due to my research not aligning with many faculty members in this program, though still unfortunate!

So excited!

Anybody received a rejection notification from UMich?

I am one of the early admits from January. My funding package is ~$28,000 in the first year and then a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) position from year 2 - 5. What did everyone else?

Applied for the sociocultural program. I have a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in applied social science disciplines; 3.6 GPA in both degrees. 18 months of ethnographic research experience and 8+ years international work experience in my geographic area of interest. I was never asked to interview, so I was not very hopeful about getting an admit. I received an email to check the portal and I found a polite, generic rejection letter from the department chair.
