Graduate School Admission Results

2 first-author papers in respectable journals, 4 internships (2 at national labs, 1 REU, 1 industry), no conference posters/presentations, no significant academic awards. Quite involved extra-curriculars, if that matters. GRE not sent to this school.

MS ML reject

Got interviewed by 3(!) faculties. Cryptography.

MLD with fellowship. 8 papers, two in submission, a few in progress/preparation. Msc in math. Rejected from UW yesterday, so it's highly stochastic out there people - stay positive!

Admitted into CMU ML PhD with fellowship. No GRE. Multiple publications at top ML venues (ICML, AISTATS, AAAI, IEEE Trans), with a few papers under review.

MSML. From old IIT (top 4). Have one year of research experience in ML. No publications.

MLD. Official notification from the department.

Official email from the department. Also contacted by my POI and a non-POI professor. Interviewed by a POI and professor not mentioned in my SoP. Theory. Several first/co-first author papers in review.

Got the acceptance email from the department head today. Field: Systems. B.Tech CS from old IIT. Had great research internships, projects, and LORs. No publications though.

Adding a data point; got a CMU SCS PhD offer today (Feb 3rd), 3 emails between 3 - 6 pm EST: one from assigned PoI, one from assigned student contact, one from official department head.

MS Machine Learning. Received an email from the program coordinator, with the final decision being released by 8th April. No idea about how large the waitlist is, or where I stand on it.

MS ML rejection. Tier-1 College, 9.12/10 CGPA, 2 years work experience as a Software Engineer, 1 publication in IEEE as a second author, 10 months of research experience. Expected. Congrats to everyone who got in.

Currently working in India. Did a research intern from USC. 1 first author ICLR, 1 second author ACL and 1 second author CVPR oral. Graduated in 2021 as class topper at IIT Delhi with a GPA of 9.69/10. MSML stoked to get my first acceptance this cycle.

MSML, but I'm not going to be accepting.

Official offer from the department head. POI said some of the notifications may be delayed.

Rejected from MSML. Tier-1 College, Non-CS Undergrad, 2 years of experience at a unicorn as a Data Scientist, 0 publications, 1 LOR from CEO, 1 LOR from Manager, 2 from Professors. Was my over-ambitious university. Will need to work harder.

Accepted to MS ML! Didn't expect this one so pretty ecstatic about this.
