Graduate School Admission Results

To the posts below: I am yet to hear from the Caltech Applied Physics Department either. They said in the confirmation e-mail that they would have results via e-mail by April 1st. If you can call in to find out the results, why don't they just e-mail us our rejections already?

To the posters below: what specialty did you apply for?

Did UCSB take any international candidates at all? I heard that funding is hard to come by this year.

to the post bellow regarding caltech, I called the potential advisor and he told me: "Because of the extremely limited number of spots for new graduate students, I have learned that the committee will not be able to offer admission." Thats it.

To the one rejected via phone by Caltech: Sorry to hear the news. Were you rejected by the graduate coordinator, or by potential advisor? I haven't heard from them yet, does this mean I'm also rejected?

To international applicant who had phone interview from U. Minnesota over the past two weeks: Have you heard from Minnesota regarding the decision on your application yet?

In response to inquiry -- I was told before I was "unlikely to be admitted" now I am "neither accepted nor rejected" unlike most other students, but "should not count on an offer being made."

"We have more than 500 applicants for about 20 slots."

Foolish to hold out hope, I guess.
