Received a personal email from a department administrator explaining that, though I interviewed well, they would be unable to extend an offer of admission due to an extremely competitive applicant pool and a smaller cohort due to Covid-related budget concerns. The department saw a 50% increase in applications this cycle, so I was honestly happy to even make it to interviews. Congrats to those who were accepted - I hope we'll cross paths during our studies! |

TPB: I think one reason why they are holding rejections from now is that they are waiting to fill their places in case someone declined the offer. That could be an informal waitlisting for the programs that don't officially have that policy. Another reason could be that they are sending acceptances out on a rolling basis (instead of in batches). |
