E-mailed after not being rejected last week, had some correspondence, accepted today. So excited! Rejected from Yale, Penn, UCLA, etc., did not expect this.

Wait listed (email said it was an unranked list) after email inquiry, "few if any open positions" in my stated interest (hep-th).

In my experience with physics grad responses over the years, for most physics departments, if you haven't heard a response by now, you are most likely rejected and they are just too lazy to tell you. Hoping you are on the top of a wait list, that probably doesn't even exist, is being naive (most of the time). And yes there are schools that take forever to decide, but most likely, the one you want to get into is not one of them.

They say there were over 700 applicants for 30 TA positions.
