Aero/Astro Engineering, Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (MIT) Several research projects with papers in progress, two international co-ops, several leadership positions. Not shocked by this, as they have always been competitive.

Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (MIT) TTPB, you are right about internal contacts. I know people from my country not US, getting straight PhD admits with 0 papers at top schools. The person's recommendations are from three profs two of them PhD from MIT and 1 from Stanford. And he got into only Stanford and MIT in top 4 and not into Cornell Berkeley and CMU. Sometimes you can only do so much. He applied to only 5 schools.

Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (MIT) ALL Weak letters. 5 workshop papers, all 5th author. 7 posters which were never presented. Very high GPA, but no research impact. SOP stating my name and the list of people I have contacts with within thee field. Emailed POIs with people with internal contacts.
