Graduate School Admission Results

Thank you very much for applying to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Yale University. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission. As you know, the very high number of extraordinary candidates among our more than 11,000 applicants far exceeds the number of places we have in each program, and we are not able to admit many excellent candidates.

I want to hit the guy who told me Princeton's department is in demand of students who are interested in film. Following the guy below "The number of admission offers available at Princeton for entering graduate students is extremely limited, and we cannot offer admission to all applicants who are well qualified. Indeed, many departments consistently have applicants who would be admitted without hesitation if additional resources were available. Our decisions take into account not only the applicants' merits but also the suitability of the programs to the candidates' expressed interests. Our goal is to achieve a sound match between the strengths of our programs and the interests of the relatively small number of outstanding students that can be accommodated."

Congrats to those admitted; unfortunately I’m not one of them. Boilerplate rejection, as follows: Thank you for applying to Princeton University's Graduate School for the 2019-20 academic year. While I assure you that the materials you submitted were carefully reviewed by the faculty in the Department of East Asian Studies, I regret to inform you that the department did not recommend your admission for the coming academic year.

Exact same generic rejection e-mail as last year.

Just received an email from the department granting me $10k merit-based funding for the year. Decent, considering my late application to the program. I am out of state though, so I am debating a deferment for a year to establish in state tuition.

UC Berkeley charges $105 as its application fee. The least it could do is inform about admission results via email rather than randomly chancing upon it while checking the portal.

Email from POI. This is my top choice, which is really really sad... My POI is a super kind AP. We are both doing early modern Japanese literature(1603-1868) and talked a lot via email, but still got rejected. The professor said they got nearly 160 applications this year while only 13 spots are available. Anyway, best wishes to the admitted ones.
