Surprised bc I thought interview went well…

CMT. 2 1st author papers, 3 n-th author papers (all in Hep-th). Also have a MSc with GPA 4.0.

Going to Caltech anyways :)

To the UMassD and U^2GRC people below, don't worry about it, everyone who applies gets admitted, just finished there myself, part of the UMass-URI group.

I co-authored a publication with a Prof. (a name in the field) from UC Berkeley. I was in contact with two Caltech faculty members from my subfield back in December and both were greatly encouraging: one telling me he's on the admissions committee and the other offering to chat over Zoom. About a month ago I found out that my most recent letter of recommendation is a bit sketchy, a risk I took by doing a master's in Germany (context: famous group, terrible atmosphere). Good luck to the rest! :~)

I got into Stanford and Yale, so I do not really care

Email that I was unofficially waitlisted while they wait for more schools to send out admissions decisions to see how many more students they can admit.
