Heartbreaking. Limited research experience; 3 yoe; good GPA and GRE

5.8 GPA from University of Zurich Informatics BSc

Top2 Chinese university and major in Ecology, so I guess it's a match. Average GPA, TOEFL 109, didn't submit GRE because it's not required. 3 research experiences, one of them in Japan. No publications but 2 papers submitted. No internships. Strong LoRs and good motivation letter (I think). Very excited!! ETHZ is my dream school in Europe. Good luck to you all!

Has anyone applying for the Computational Science PhDs got any feedback yet? They told us two weeks ago, that we would hear until the end of last week, but I still have not heard anything yet, even though the first interview round should have taken place Mid February.

First Class Math & Stats degree from one of the G5, 1+ year in the industry as a data analyst with projects and experiences in machine learning. Always heard that GPA matters a lot to them but didn't expect to this extent..

top3 university in China, GPA 87/100, honor school student, top 10%. 2-year research experience in related field, 1year in irrelevant field, 1 paper submitted. no idea about how to apply for scholarship.

Chinese student, GPA 3.80/4, TOEFL 106, GRE 330, two years research experience with one paper, one internship in scientific american (chinese version), national scholarship and several other experience. Received the decision on 23/2.

CS undergrad at a Chinese university. The rejection letter (PDF on portal) said the following: "Thank you very much for having applied to our University. We regret to inform you that your application to the Data Science MSc programme at ETH Zurich has not been successful. Attendance of this Master's degree programme presupposes basic and subject-specific knowledge and competences (discipline requirements profile). A very good performance in the preceding degree programme is also required. An examination of your dossier by the Admissions Committee of the degree programme indicates that your performance does not sufficiently fulfil the criteria set out in the discipline requirements profile." I think it could be because my background and finished courses don't sufficiently match the requirements of data science (my research experience is in computer systems). Best of luck to others.
