Graduate School Admission Results

Notified of interview 12/17/21; Interview was 1/27/22; offered admission via email 2/8/22

(I've done 2 years of research in a specialized subfield (uncommon for undergrads in my subfield), so I thought that MIGHT make up for very meh stats.) Rejection letter reads: "Thank you for your interest in the Department of Chemistry graduate program at the University of Michigan. After careful review of your application and supporting materials, I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to our program for the Fall 2022 term. This decision is not a reflection on your qualifications. As the number of applications has risen, we increasingly need to turn away qualified applicants to ensure that our class size is small enough so that each student will be able to join a research group. To accomplish this goal, we need an incoming class of 5-10% the size of our applicant pool. This leads to a regrettable situation where we must deny admission to very good students. Best wishes to you for success in your future studies."

Had an interview on the 4th, a letter of admission came in via email

From what I heard, this track was started three or four years ago and since then, there hasn't been any student enrolled. My theory is that they probably have a really high bar for this track and if ur able to get in probably u are also qualified for a much better program. Anyway, good luck!

From China here, interviewed on Feb 7 and received the offer the next day. No publications, average LoRs, medium GPA, and I have no idea why I got admitted lol.

Ignore the waitlist. Does anyone get the email from the astronomy and astrophysics department? I can see that other department has released the results at U of Michigan
