Graduate School Admission Results

Received my ID on Jan 14. Had a preliminary interview with a potential supervisor in late December.

Department administrator emailed stating committee was reviewing applications and strongly encouraged that I apply for FLAS funding (deadline Jan 15). No follow-up since.

Got email directing me to portal. Portal had form rejection. 1r/4p

Had previously received insight from a high-ranking professor (who agreed to support my application) that this year's admissions cycle would give priority to the department's newer professors looking to bulk up their advising over all others (COVID funding limitations). The preferences of more established professors would be put on the back burner and only be given consideration if there was extra room. Evidently, there was no room for me.

Received an email notifying of a change to the application status on the portal

Received email from application portal of change of status.

I was already in contact and have a close relationship with the professor who would have been my supervisor so I was notified prior to the official letter. It was all due to the lack of funding, so I wasn't surprised. Just an unfortunate year to be applying. I completed my undergrad here in anthropology and have an international master's in anthropology.

Conditional Offer. A bit surprised as I applied not long ago for the funding deadline, Jan 7th. Still waiting for funding and college allocation. Similarly accepted into the MRes a few years ago but didn't get funding, trying not to get hopes up.
