The number of well-qualified applicants for admission to graduate study at Santa Cruz far exceeds the number of places available. Although a substantial majority of these applicants will meet every minimal standard an admissions committee might establish, not all will be admitted. Admission nearly always depends on, for example, compatibility of the applicant's expressed interests with those of faculty in the program, and balance of disciplinary subfields within the program, as well as other factors. Please direct any further inquiry you might have to the Department to which you applied. Although it has not proved possible for us to offer you a place, we sincerely appreciate your interest in the Santa Cruz campus of the University of California. Anthropology, UCSC Ignore Status: Another person had asked but wondering if anyone had heard back UCSC anthropology department yet. They had sent out an email last month saying to except offers starting to coming in late Feb/early March so I'm wondering if anybody has received an offer yet.

Sociology, University Of California, Santa Cruz IGNORE STATUS. Has anyone heard back from UCSC yet? On gradcafe some people got acceptances or rejections but I haven't heard anything from them yet? Also, did anyone get an invite to the graduate visit day?

English, UCSC The very warm and welcoming email is from a scholar whose work I admire in the UCSC English department and is an unofficial recommendation (written in bold for emphasis) of acceptance, NOT an official letter of acceptance. I am honored and beyond grateful. This is my second season, and I was planning to keep trying every year for as long as it takes because my application improves every time I fill out a new one. Ph.D. Visual Culture, University Of California, Santa Cruz I emailed their grad coordinator who let me know finalists have received notice already. The portal hasn't been updated. I received a few other acceptances and was waiting to hear from UCSC. It would be nice if programs would let unselected students know their status once they've reached out to their admitted students.

Astronomy And Astrophysics, University Of California, Santa Cruz Emailed the grad coordinator on 4 March, received the response today. "Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in UC Santa Cruz. I wanted to let you know that, unfortunately, you have not advanced to our next round in the admissions process. The applications we received this year were extremely competitive. The committee thought highly of your application, of your achievements to date, and of your promise for distinguished scholarly work in the future. However, the competition is increasingly keen, and unfortunately, our resources are limited. We received well over 320 applications for 8 funded positions. The admissions committee deeply appreciates your interest and the time and effort expended by you and your letter writers. Even though you were not awarded a position this year, your nomination and application have brought your work to the attention of the UCSC Astronomy department. We hope that you will find other appropriate provisions to enable you to pursue a graduate career this year."
