Bioengineering, UC San Diego (UCSD) TTPB: I also had to contact the department and was similarly told that if I hadn't been asked to interview, I would most likely not get an offer. Poster below is not trolling, I do think the department or certain staff members may be giving different answers. I got this response over email about three weeks ago.

Ethnic Studies, UC San Diego (UCSD) disregard the waitlist: to mention to the folks who are curious when offers are made, I was emailed on Feb 16th, 2021 that offers would be made final 3 weeks from then - which is this upcoming week. So HOPEFULLY we can expect to hear back sometime this week. I am staying hopeful.

Philosophy, University Of California, San Diego Grad GPA: 4.0. Was notified via email to check portal. I was a good fit, but this isn't unexpected. Also, I was told that they would have a reduced admitted class this semester. Congrats to everyone that got accepted, UCSD is a really strong program and will likely move up in PGR rankings.

Philosophy, UC San Diego 5a/0w/1r/4p Was definitely expecting this. I ended up re-doing parts of my application quite significantly after submitting the app for UCSD (applied primarily to MA programs so the deadline was later by a few weeks). Not too butt hurt about it. I'll likely be attending an MA program this fall and will reapply to PhD programs after that

Bioengineering, UC San Diego (UCSD) TTPB: I asked the department twice, and I did not get a response like yours. They told me, "We are still working through offers. You should hear by the end of this week." So either you are just trolling or they are saying two (or more) different things. I would say (based on the responses I got from the coordinator), there is still hope left, so don't give up yet.

Bioengineering, UC San Diego (UCSD) I contacted the department. Their response: "The invitations for interviews have already gone out, so unfortunately, if you have not received an invitation this likely means we are not able to consider you for the PhD."
