PI of interest reached out for informal 30 min skype. Few days after skype received notification for formal in person interview at end of Feb.

I feel like Emory's letter of rejection is kinda ruthless and impolite compared to other universities. "I regret to inform you that the faculty in the program you applied to has not recommended you for admission to Emory University's Laney Graduate School." Don't they research how other schools inform the applicants? After all, we paid money for the applications, at least be kind and respectful to the applicants.

My second choice in the school, generic rejection

Received an email from the dept. head on 2/6. Did not require an interview.

4/4 GPA in MSc not undergrad. MSc from a decent-reputation US school. Applied for quantum gravity or mathematical physics. 1 HEP-th paper, corresponding author. Got email to check app portal. The financial details of the offer are excellent! If you are waiting for UVA I hope you get it just because of the financial offer!

Emailed to check portal for decision. Feeling totally gutted. Had a fantastic fit with multiple faculty, 9 years of research experience, 2 publications, 1 in progress, 1 under review, 1 conference presentation, 1 invited peer review I conducted myself and an invited peer book review for a journal in progress too. Am blown away by this rejection and quite frankly don't know how to cope - I don't know how I possibly could have been more competitive of a candidate.
