Just for the record: My application status change back from "recommended for assessment" to "review in progress by department" within 2 days. I think a decision is near. Wish me luck!

Well, if all the acceptances went out, I guess I didn't get in. Possibly because I said I would want to try out a lot of advisors my first year (even though they advertised this as a unique part of the program, it looks like they have a single advisor admit you).

I got this ambiguous email from Brown, 2 months after having submitted the application. Does anyone else get the same email? "Thank you for your application and interest in the PhD program in computer science at Brown University! We are looking for new students across all branches of computer science. Our ties to other university departments provide strong opportunities for students to conduct interdisciplinary research. PhD students can expect to receive full tuition support, health insurance, and a generous stipend. Students receive on average USD $28,000 during the 9-month academic year, with many opportunities to supplement this at a higher rate in the summer. Students in good academic standing are guaranteed five years of full academic support. We have been actively reviewing applications and will be doing a rolling admission; we have started admitting students in the first wave.
