Rej email after inquiry, hep-th! Application season is over. International applicant, 1 acceptance, 21 rej. (so close to all rej, can't imagine. ). An awful year, but good luck with everyone!

UK degree, cumulative First, Chem Eng integrated undergraduate + masters; 4 research experiences (1 with a physicist, rests are in ChemEng dept), 1 paper in preparation; dean's lists (top 10%) for two years

CMEx. This is my top choice

I emailed a prof whose work I am interested in and he said "I do not anticipate Michigan State being able to make an offer to you in the near future." Also mentioned highly competitive year and increase in applicants etc. Truly appreciated his frankness especially since I have not received any sort of updates from many institutions. As it stands right now, I am 0/11...

TTPB:Thanks, your response kinda explained the dead silence for me. Yeah! I guess we're on the same boat since I have received neither a rejection nor acceptance. If there's anyone who has been accepted to CWRU and is not planning to enroll should decline the offer as soon as s/he can.

(Ignore interview) Is the AMS result for the faculty of science out yet?

TTPB: I had an interview mid-Jan, was told I would get a decision in a couple weeks. Reached out mid-Feb, the interviewed said by the end of the month but could not give any more info. Reached out to coordinator early March and did not hear back :/

TTPB: I had emailed to Grad Admission committee chair a few times. He responded to my last email that they had already sent most of the acceptances as well as rejections. And they don't normally waitlist people. However, they were interested in my application and wanted to delay responding. So, if you haven't heard yet, it is most likely that we are on the same boat right now. They are interested in our applications, and we might be contacted if more slots open up.

(not waitlist) Anyone heard back from USC, hep-th? sent email to ask about status last week, no response yet.

I saw this coming, at this point. Still, disappointing.

True waitlist, got an email about it this morning. anyone else also get wailisted?

God only knows what's going on at UMD. If they plan to reject anyone who did not receive an active consideration e-mail, why don't they just reject us and put those folk on an official waitlist?

TTBP: I haven't heard anything from them since I applied. I did NOT receive that "active consideration" email.

More applications than spots available

Received an email from IMPRS-QST, Munich saying that I am not qualified for the interviews.

1 Year of research experience. Had contacted a prof earlier and he was interested in the profile. 9month TAship at 18.5K/annum and other benefits. Open house on 25th and 26th March. Would decide after attending the open house. First an only acceptance from the USA.

Good GPA, multiple international REUs. Cumulative 1.5yrs of research experience
