Hopes crashed, dreams shattered. Not admitted in the last wave of admits. Research interests perfectly aligned with those of PoI. Invalidated 1/7 of the results of one of his projects funded by a $500k NSF grant, and the main-author acknowledged the mistake. If that is not good enough for them to admit an MS student, I don't know what is. Had applied for the Network Systems track. I had wrongly assumed that top researchers are genuinely interested in their work. It seems some of them are driven by the 'publish or perish' culture. I know that finding mistakes in a paper presented at a top-5 conference is not indicative of my research-ability, but it does not mean I am a nitwit either. Hugely disappointed in UCLA, and myself. |
