Waitlisted after interview via email from PI in Jan, portal update email to rejection letter today

Was told I was a good fit but they didn't have funding.

Rejected on 25th March

Had interviewed in early Jan and was waitlisted. PI emailed me on 3/22 to inform me that his first choice accepted the offer and that they're unable to offer me a spot of admission.

Undergrad in psychology

Two Year curriculum with concentration in Artificial Intelligence and Language; $22,500 Dean's scholarship for first year and half scholarship for second year if gpa is good; Interdisciplinary background in humanities and stem with research projects in Computational Humanities and machine learning

Recommended for admission 3 days after in-person interview! PI reached out to accept me as well, yesterday. Official letter by the end of the week.

Undergraduate minor in DS; research background in machine learning and computational humanities.

Undergraduate in non-related major and DS minor; several research projects in computational humanities and machine learning; one publication in unrelated field.

Interdisciplinary background with research experience in Computational Humanities, Natural Language Processing, and Computational Literary Analysis; had several research projects and two senior thesis; one publication in unrelated field)

Received an email to check the portal as a decision has been made.

Got off waitlist! Super excited as it was my top choice

PLEASE inform them if you have better choice and intend to decline , this is my only hope now after getting rejected by all other programs, please please please

Ignore the status. Has anyone received any updates from UCI? I've yet to hear anything about the status of my application, whether it be a waitlist or a rejection.
