Physics Graduate School Admission Results

Said I was open to Theoretical CM and Theoretical Particle Physics in my statement of intent. Received an offer letter by email today.

Anyone know if Columbia is done admitting?

CMT, one 1st author pub. in Phys. Rev. B, 3 yrs research with prof, good LORs, teaching exp., the GPA is for Masters in Physics. My guess is the GRE problem. But GREs have been discredited in peer reviewed literature many times. (Recent study by U.Mass. Amherst). For males, it is a negative indicator of success in grad school, and for females there is no correlation.

Simply told that other candidates had better credentials.

One of my hopefuls. Undergrad in south Asia, in a college well known for Engineering. My interest was in CMT. Congratulations for the selected applicants, and of course, best of luck for those who did not get it. Hope that everyone gets good universities by the end of the season.

Currently getting a MS in Physics. 1 paper in submission to ApJ, another in the works. 6 conference presentations. At least 1 very strong LOR. 3 workshops attended between HPC and Astrophysics. Teaching experience.

Good. It rains there 250 days a year. I am on my way to UH Manoa... aloha

I emailed admissions last week. Was told applications were still under review... UCI appears to be on Spring Break now.

I called them for my status. Not a formal/official rejection. She said that they were not yet finished reviewing my application, but that they were almost finished and they would probably not offer me admission.

I was interviewed via Skype on January 30th. Then, I found that I'm on the waiting list. Of course, waiting for a few months was hard. And receiving the rejection was hard too!
