Got a mail from a grad student at Berkeley who said I have been accepted. But no official mail from anyone. Is this how it goes?

I wonder how my spam filter did not catch this mass e-mail. I did not even complete the application, nor paid the fee. I had even forgotten that I had started application to Berkeley. Then, there was the admission decision out of the blue.
