Computer Science, Stanford University TTPB: "Interviews" are necessary but the Stanford committee has a wide definition for interview. If a faculty had met you somewhere in person, it can count as an interview. If you ask them they would say no, interviews are not necessary but as far as I researched, for admission you should have been interviewed or talked to them in some other way.
