The Faculty Committee of Admissions in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University has conducted a thorough review of your application. I am sorry to inform you that the committee did not recommend you for admission. We regret that we were unable to accept all the exceptional students who applied to our department. The selection process was difficult and painstaking, and many strong candidates had to be turned away. More information on how we conduct our admissions process can be found on our website.

Did not actually get an interview - emailed and was informed that "file is still under review" so they might still send out more?

Undergrad GPA 3.8, Master GPA 3.52, 3 publications (2 first author, 1 second author), 1 under review ( first author, High IF journal), 1 patent, 1 conference poster. Sad. Maybe they rejected me because of my master's GPA? or My papers' impact factor don't high engough? Anyway, congrats to those got in!

2 years of research experience and counting. One publication on the way, in which the co-director of the SUNCAT centre at Stanford was a collaborator. He even wrote me a recommendation letter so its really surprising to see a rejection. All the best to everyone who got in tho!
